The Task
January 22 - February 21 (weekends)
Castillo Theatre (New York, NY)
Saturday, February 20, 2010
7:30PM - 9:30PM
The promise of revolution comes to Jamaica in 1799, as the timeless themes of love, loss and betrayal collide in a challenging play by acclaimed German avant-gardist Heiner Müller.
Castillo continues expanding the boundaries of political theatre as popular director Gabrielle L. Kurlander mounts the first ever all-Black American production of Müller's The Task. With Fred Newman's avant-garde songs, Billy Taylor's gospel, R&B classics and rap, this is New York City experimental theatre at its best.
(The play contains some nudity and strong language.)
The WindWater musical team produced 21 tracks of music, ranging from avant garde soundscapes to classic jazz and blues (via some hot reggae) for this show. It features all members of the current WW sextet (Premik Russell Tubbs on reeds, Jerry McCord on bass, Arnie Wise on drums, Tigger Benford on percussion, along with Michael Walsh on keyboards and David Belmont on guitar and dobro, with special guest bassist emeritus Michael Visceglia).
