The Damn Times

The Damn Times smell of the essence of Austin's punk rock scene, emitting a sound that is as tight as it is raw. With anthems like "Don't Like People" fueling their live shows, the band attacks every note with intensity, grit, and spit. Formed in 2000, The Damn Times have played about every venue in Austin and have made a few treks up and down the West Coast.

Their punk prowess bleeds into other acts, as well. Drummer Coby Cardosa can be seen on organ with The Crack Pipes. Bassist Jeff Linton spent some time lending his low-end to both Sons of Hercules and The Stepbrothers. Chad Nichols when not ripping leads, fronts The Transgressors and plays acoustic guitar with T Tex Edwards and the Texwardians. Ryan Anderson also plays bass and continues to record bands in his studio, Active Sound Recording.

The band's uber-long-awaited EP, produced by garage punk producer extraordinaire Mike Mariconda, has collected dust since 2000. But a shelved project has not held the band back, as they've earned opening spots for Flesh Tones, Deadbolt, Gaza Strippers and many others along the way.

The Danbury Lie

A forever evolving, eclectic, musical mindfuck—the rare breed of music written for the listeners to fix on whether they should stomp, shake or shriek—gathering strangers and friends alike to celebrate in its inimitability.

Spastic genius, robust in its uncompromising originality—the expressive brainchild of one Robert Loncto with a sole purpose of taking the listener on an eerie journey deep into the mind of a freethinker.

Robert can be found in a dimly lit barroom or an eccentric music hall, giving his followers the unfamiliar feeling of psychic divide between musician and outsider.

Jason Daryush

Hailing from Oakland, California, Jason Daryush is set to deliver a winning compromise between a smooth and catchy pop sound and an honest, organic, direct folk attitude. Brit pop influences are highly noticeable from the start (think Doves, The Verve, The Smiths), with a fondness for immediate and direct melodies. The bright, yet warm and embracing sound of the acoustic guitar is definitely “the skin and bones” of Jason’s music, along with a tight rhythm section and a personal, heartfelt vocal approach.

Days N Daze

Houstonians Whitney Flynn and Jesse Sendejas formed Days N Daze as a duo in 2008. Since then, they've taken on different musicians to create a full recording and touring band. Presently, the band's rhythm section includes bassist Geoff Bell and percussionist Meagan Melancon. Flynn and Sendejas remain the band's principal songwriters.

The group's sound has been described as "riot folk" or "thrashgrass." Song themes run the gamut from social (gang violence, terrorism, annihilation of the environment for corporate pocket-lining, the mundane and unavoidable anxieties of modern life, et al) to recreational (how the fuck did we end up in jail?).

Days N Daze embraces the D.I.Y. ethic by recording, packaging and promoting its music independently.

DnD is best known for is its live shows, which are energetic to the point of audience members stripping their clothes off in ecstatic, music-induced jubilation (or, too much PBR). The band has performed throughout the United States and Canada in venues ranging from house shows to festivals. DnD independently booked and promoted a full U.S tour with New Zealand’s Night Gaunts after their split release in 2015. They also had the privilege to tour with Leftover Crack and featured on LOC’s newest album “Constructs of the State”. On the road, DnD has played the D.I.Y. staple Mountain Blood Fest, at Skatopia's Bowl Bash and has played multiple sold out shows across the states including New York City and Los Angeles. At home, it performs routinely at well-regarded spaces such as Walter's and Warehouse Live. The band was honored to be awarded Best Punk Act in 2015 by The Houston Press.

2016 Days N Daze will be releasing their seventh full length album “CrustFall” and will be touring Europe through Pumpkin Records.

The Dead Left

The Dead Left are song strong and rough-hewn singer/song-rocker with a healthy dose of post-punk-sonic-stuff. Principal writer, Neal Kassanoff, is a song craft chameleon, and is joined by a band with similarly versatile musicianship. Lauren Gurgiolo (Okkervil River) brings a palette of conventional and unconventional sounds and chops rarely matched by others (even in a talent soaked town like Austin). Gray Parsons and Linsday Greene bring the rhythm with an indelible sense of the spirit of each song.

Kassanoff has written for and co-written with a number of Texas standouts, including Ben Kweller, Carolyn Wonderland, and the Asylum Street Spankers.

Self taught, Lindsay Greene builds his own synth modules, which can be heard on Dead Left recording and stage shows. Drummer Gray Parsons is the visual artist for the bands album artwork and many of the band's posters.

The Dead Left has just released its new EP, A Robot Does it Better. It was recorded at East Austin Recorders, with engineering and co-production by Moonlight Towers frontman James Stevens.

Nina Diaz

Nina Diaz, lead singer for the San Antonio band Girl in a Coma, has been hailed by NPR as “one of the two or three most exciting, scary-good vocalists in rock today.” At age 13 Nina’s vocal and songwriting skills impressed her older sister (eight years her senior) so much that she asked Nina to join her band on lead vocals and guitar. The band was Girl in Coma. The band so impressed Joan Jett at a performance at New York’s Knitting Factory. that Jett signed GIAC to her label, Blackheart Records, on the spot. The band’s 2007 debut album, Both Before I’m Gone, was a critical hit and reached No. 23 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Girl in a Coma went on to three more albums and toured the world opening for bands such as Morrissey, Tegan and Sara, Amanda Palmer, Sia, Smashing Pumpkins and many more.

Nina's distinctive voice and powerful live performances attracted the attention of fans, producers and fellow artists. In 2009, Nina collaborated with Tiësto to write the dance track, "In Your Mind." At the request of the director Robert Rodriguez, she also wrote an original song for Machete.

Being a public performer at such an early age took a toll and in early 2013 Nina began finding an outlet as she began writing new material that was all her own. She continued touring with the band, but took time to perform some of these new songs at a sold out show at Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe.

At the start of 2014, Nina Diaz, decided to take a break from Girl in a Coma to head into the studio to record this new solo material. After spending time arranging over a dozen new songs, she headed to Sonic Ranch Studios in West Texas to work with producer Manuel Calderon and was joined by the amazing musicians, David Garza and Patricio Davila (drummer for Ximena Sariñana). A release date for the album will be announced later this year but in June, Nina returns to the stage for a three-week residency to perform these newly arranged songs for the first time with a five-piece band.

Ethan Diehl

Ethan Findley Diehl was born in 1972 in Austin, Texas, to a poet father, and a librarian mother. Three years later, the Diehls moved to the university town of Iowa City, Iowa, where Ethan spent his childhood surrounded by an extraordinary collection of public artwork. The coupling of his parents' love for art and the frequent family trips to Chicago museums instilled in Ethan an early and lasting love for drawing and other visual arts.

Ethan's childhood passion for visual arts eventually led him to Stanford University where he met Nathan Oliveira, a painter, sculptor, and master print-maker, to whom Ethan attributes much of his success. Oliveira helped show Ethan how to turn color-blindness into striking expressionistic images.

After graduation from Stanford in 1994, Ethan aspired to more realism in his work. It was during the sweltering summer of 1998, only three months after moving to Austin from California, that Ethan remembered a 60 Minutes story on Chuck Close, one of the most important American figures in hyperrealism.

Specializing in close-up portraits, Close creates mammoth-sized paintings using a grid system, made entirely of miniscule squares. The theory is that each square will contain an average of the shades that actually exist, thus resulting in a dynamically realistic whole. For Ethan, despite the obvious roadblock of time, Close's style was worth exploring. Ethan thus began and has found his more realistic style, ironically enough, in the unreal world of grids.

Ethan Diehl currently lives, works, and paints in Austin, Texas, where he continues to use photographs, computers, and grid systems to create paintings. Each year, the squares in the grid grow smaller, the canvas grows larger, and Ethan continues to produce the unreal realism of emotionally and visually complex images.

dizzybloom

dizzybloom was formed in Austin in March of 1995 by Billy R. Preston, Juliet Gamero and Stacey Evans. Steven Oakes joined the band as a permanent member in May of 1996. After a year of off-and-on recording at Congress House Studio in south Austin with producer Mark Hallman, the self-titled debut album was released in May of 1997. Over the course of the next 12 months the band played shows constantly in cities such as Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Lubbock, College Station, San Marcos, and of course, Austin, Texas. They had over a dozen radio interviews, had several record reviews in newspapers and magazines throughout the state.

dizzybloom played their final show at Liberty Lunch in Austin, May 28, 1998. Juliet went on to finish her master's degree in music at UT Austin, and has held faculty positions in two different universities in Montana and in Utah. She continues to teach piano lessons to all ages and she raises four children with Billy in Utah. Billy obtained a master's in Forestry in Missoula, Montana, and currently holds a supervisor's position with the US Forest Service in Utah. Steven obtained a second bachelor's degree in computer science, to go along with his bachelor's in business from UT Austin, and eventually took a job with the Hewlett Packard Company in the Dallas area. Stacey continued to pursue her musical career in Hollywood after a brief stay in Boise, Idaho. She released a solo album A Slender Thread in 2005 and still writes, records, performs in Los Angeles.

In December 2010, Billy, Juliet and Steven met at the Congress House Studio in Austin, Texas, to record four brand new original songs along with an Aerosmith cover ("Dream On") to be included on an upcoming EP release for April 2011. This meeting would mark the first time since May of 1998 that these three musicians have recorded any music together. Wiley Koepp of the Austin band Scorpio Rising sat in on drums and Ashley Glover of Austin band Dn'A sang all vocals. Mark Hallman assumed the role of producer once again. The title of the 5-song EP is Heroes for Ghosts and will be darker, moodier and a bit on the heavier rock side than anything previously released by the band. The songs are longer, more complex and draw heavily on inspirations from 70's classic LPs: Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door, Rush's A Farewell to Kings, and Yes' Fragile.
