A native Texan, JR Taylor was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. His professional music experience began in high school and continued through his years studying music at the University of Texas at Austin.
As a studio engineer/producer, he has a wide range of credits from children’s records with Walt Disney Records to progressive rock legends such as Styx, Alan Holdsworth, and Terry Bozzio. As an artist, in addition to his own progressive, instrumental and worship projects, he has accompanied Dove award-winning CCM artist, Geoff Moore. He has written & recorded music with Styx members, Ricky Phillips and Todd Sucherman (Modern Drummer's 2009 #1 Rock Drummer), that was pitched for a Hollywood film soundtrack.
His love for theology naturally led to his involvement in worship ministry. JR served for seven years as the music & worship arts leader at an emerging megachurch in Austin that implemented self-produced video, drama, art and dance. In 2009, his song, "Restore Us," was featured in Worship Leader Magazine's SongDISCovery. In 2011, he transitioned out of his full-time church staff role to focus on his growing music business and currently serves in a Sunday morning leadership role at a medium-large bible church. He is actively involved with a city-wide worship leader network group and a creative mentorship group of fellow artists within the vibrant creative community in Austin.
JR Taylor's newest album Soli Deo Gloria was released in July 2013. This is a record fostering the integration of classic hymns into the modern church context.
