Rich in emotion. Lyrically exposing vulnerabilities. Paying tribute to women, family, and all who battle with their own struggles against insecurity, overthinking, and judgement from others. Shannon Patiño puts her pen to paper for the sake of songwriting, just as others do while journaling or self-reflecting. This Mexican American songstress and singer hails from the small Illinois village of Minooka but now calls Mount Vernon, Washington her home. Her recordings and regional performances bring to life her personal stories and emotional journey. Patiño weaves her themes of self-worth and following one's dreams into a beautiful, vibrant discography.
Her 2024 release Here I Go Again showcases the very impetus that led Shannon to start writing songs back in 2015. The songs "El Tiempo" and "Pressure" presented themselves to her at that time and have remained relevant, both earning inclusion on her latest album. At the time, through those songs, Patiño found herself navigating the pressure of being the first daughter of immigrants--caught between the goal of achieving financial autonomy while not giving up on her individual dreams and passions.
Once she'd found songwriting as a release Shannon dove deeper into her own psyche, writing "Fly Away" and "Hey Girl" in an effort to break free from her own insecurities. And in a difficult time in our country with women's rights being challenged and elminated, "Taking Back This Reign" unapologetically expresses her womanhood and the need to take the lead in a patriarchal society. "I tend to write about whatever I am struggling with at the moment--being unsure of what the next step is for you and your partner, whether or not to have a baby, feeling like your relationship is being judged."
DharmaDen Sessions describes Patiño as "a bilingual artist who blends classical Mexican with Stevie Nicks." And while, yes, her music expresses her sensitivity and struggle--from the challenges of women's and immigrants' plights in modern-day America to imposter syndrome--Shannon also fights and is a champion for what she embodies. With her vulnerability Shannon Patiño also brings to her music her undeniable strength, conviction, and determination to achieve her dreams against the odds.
