Year 2014. Stavanger, Norway. That’s where the idea of an experimental music project called t dot est has been brought to life. Its name can be interpreted as a test or dealing with something. It’s not surprising therefore why the man behind the project prefers anonymity – when others are concentrating on documenting their lives on social media, he is focusing on building a concept of a new album. His music is a mixture of IDM, electronica, ambient with a hint of jazz and classical sounds.
t dot est wants the productions to be like good films and books – musical stories with the beginning and the end. That’s the main reason the works has the topical threads – for example there’s a DYSTOPIAN Thread (albums like BLMRVRSD, DSTPNPLS, FRMTHDSTNT), ANOTN (albums like Project Anton, PA2, re: Anton, A40) and Travel Thread (albums like NORDSTEPS, B in, DOT). Each of those threads is characterized by recording and production technique as well as compositions assumptions. The other important part of those threads are graphics commonly made by well-educated artists from Academy Of Fine Arts.
Results of this hard work are albums and singles released by labels like Onionwave, RUSKA BURSA, Addicted to Music Studios and cooperations with musicians and remixers like Jexus, Susana Jara, Ania Dudek, Jakub Żytecki, Simen Kiil Halvorsen, Julie Hasfjord, Cinar Timur, Szymon Mika, Demsky, maga, Paweł Szamburski, Rafał Dutkiewicz, P.A.F.F, Maro Music, Zeu5, Piotr Figiel and many others.
t dot est creates new projects to show that being faithful to the principles of traditional way of creating music is not against modern technology. The perfect example of it is combining human voice, usually in the form of female opera or folk singing with experimental electronics. That kind of approach is the reason why every album of t dot est has its own, unique sound.
