The Simpletons

Genre: Alternative, Indie
Hometown: Dallas, TX

Indie rockers The Simpletons return with Let Love Wait—a six-song EP that shimmers with jangly guitars, post-punk echoes, and the timeless pull of well-crafted melody. It’s the band’s first release since 2024’s standalone single, "Cold in the Daylight," and finds them in rare, revitalized form.

Steeped in the spirit of acts like The Smiths, The Cure, and The Church, Let Love Wait is both a love letter to a bygone era and a fresh sound. The EP was shaped in part by the guiding hand of guitarist Marty Willson-Piper (formerly of The Church, The Saints, and All About Eve), whose experience helped hone the songwriting and arrangements.

The Simpletons first formed in the early ’90s as college friends in Dallas, Texas but were on hiatus until guitarist Brian McMurtry and Nathan Fynn rekindled their friendship with their 2023 EP Trampling Roses. For their next single, they enlisted the help of original member Scott McTaggart on bass guitar, and finally Kari Campbell on vocals and keyboards.

The Simpletons are:

Kari Campbell – vocals, keyboards
Nathan Fynn – vocals
Brian McMurtry – vocals, guitars
Scott McTaggart – bass guitar
