Bert Badger has released Pop Punk Kids, his fifth album and perhaps his most musically ambitious project yet. Available August 25 across all major streaming platforms via TuneCore, the eleven-song collection brings the energy, humor and attitude of classic pop punk into the world of children’s music — without sacrificing the musicality or emotional honesty that makes the genre so much fun.

Pop Punk Kids is the result of a three-year collaboration between Bert Badger and musician/producer Jon Paul Kauffman, formerly of Lansing, Michigan's Boink. Bert wrote the lyrics and melodies, while Kauffman composed the music and contributed mixing and mastering. The process was deliberately collaborative and, according to Bert, remarkably free of creative conflict.

“There were no fights,” Bert says of making the album. “The vibe was, let’s have fun.”

And fun is exactly what the album delivers.

Drawing inspiration from the classic pop-punk sound associated with bands such as blink-182, Sum 41 and Bowling for Soup, Pop Punk Kids combines big guitars, energetic drums, layered harmonies, breakdowns and call-and-response vocals with songs about the wonderfully strange world of being a kid.

The album covers everything from bad moods and big emotions to flying, fireworks, Ferris wheels, bubbles and the challenges of living with ADHD.

“Down in the Dumps” acknowledges that sometimes kids simply have terrible days, while ultimately offering a reassuring message that sadness and anger are normal emotions. “I Want Wings” embraces the boundless imagination of childhood, and “ADHD” tackles the frustration of feeling different and struggling to control an overactive mind.

The album also contains a pair of songs inspired by Bert’s childhood memories of the 1980s Sesame Street movie Follow That Bird: “Easy Going Day” and “Fireworks.”

While Bert Badger’s music is designed with children in mind, Pop Punk Kids isn't intended exclusively for the youngest listeners. Bert describes the album as being for children five and up — with particular emphasis on the “and up.”

“Kids can listen with their parents and everyone has a great time,” Bert says.

That philosophy reflects Bert’s larger approach to children’s entertainment. An award-winning children’s hip-hop and pop-punk artist, Bert combines music with ridiculous humor, physical activity, empathy and positivity. His interactive shows encourage kids to get out of their seats and participate, whether at a birthday party, school event, family gathering or live performance.

Bert recently relocated from Los Angeles to Nashville, where he is beginning to build a new live music community and hopes to assemble a full band for his pop-punk material.

For Bert, the music is only part of the equation. His live performances have developed into family-friendly variety experiences featuring music, comedy and plenty of opportunities for kids to get involved. He is even perfectly willing to bring the show to a living room.

“I’m down to rock a house party at the drop of a hat,” he says.

With Pop Punk Kids, Bert Badger has created an album that lets kids experience the exuberance of pop punk while giving parents something they can genuinely enjoy alongside them.

The result is loud, colorful, goofy, surprisingly thoughtful — and completely unapologetic about having fun.
