In 2024 musical brethren Cody Carlyle and Travis Jordan swung for the fences with their debut release Mud Music, a 17-track dark Americana double album. Now, just over 1 year later the follow-up will drop on the darkest of all holidays: Halloween 2025. A Carnival of Reveries tallies a more easily digestible 9 tracks but embodies all the morose, murderous vibes they've become quite nimble at writing and recording during their partnership that's going on three full decades.

Yes, the duo have played together for 30+ years so the familiarity and in-sync-ness of their visions are spot-on. Interestingly, Carlyle lives on the East Coast, flying West once or twice a year to lay down his parts that have been hashed out remotely throughout the rest of the year. But the physical distance has in some ways made the musical partnership more focused and fine-tuned.

The record presents a bit of a blast from the past, as well. Two of the tracks clock in at 30 years old! Until They Burn Me brought in Travis Martin from their old days in the band The Dry Season. Martin co-wrote "Josef K" and "Licorice & Lollipops" and sings on both of the resuscitated tracks on Carnival. 

Coyote Music had the good fortune of reviewing an advanced copy of A Carnival of Reveries but you'll need to wait to hear it until the proper All Hallow's Eve release date. Then, in December, the group will drop the album on vinyl for their true audiophile fans. But along with the album's digital release, Halloween will also see-in the video for the record's lead single: "Dark and Deep." It will serve as the first of five singles (and videos?) set for release over the following weeks.
