The genesis of the Save The Cactus Cafe campaign was a comment posted on the Facebook profile of Austin singer/songwriter Juliana Murphy. From there, Scorpio Rising drummer Wiley Koepp (aka DJ Bixler) took the idea and ran, creating the Save The Cactus Cafe Facebook group that's still going strong with nearly 25,000 members.
This Saturday, May 15, the Cactus Cafe welcomes Scorpio Rising for their EP release show, with Juliana Murphy opening. Rounding out the bill will be longtime Austin musician, guitarist, and songwriter Nathan Olivarez.
The Last One Standing is Scorpio Rising's fourth album. The vehemently South Austin based band places annually in the Austin Chronicle Readers Poll in the categories of Best Goth/Industrial Band and Best DJ. But a Scorpio Rising live show takes on much more of dance-meets-hard-rock feel, as the band combines their influences (including Madonna, Judas Priest, ABBA, Motley Crue, & Deicide) to create a uniquely flamboyant onstage experience.
Scorpio Rising's visual train of extravagance rolling into the Cactus Cafe Saturday night will include their synchronized light show and crotch-fringed jumpsuits. No word as of yet if singer Madame Scorpio will adorn her chemotherapy-balded head with mirrors as she did at the band's 2010 SXSW showcase.
