Track listing: breath, no go zone, judge and jury, parachute
Acting As Functional is the stage name for a songwriter based in Buckinghamshire, UK who has recorded several songs to put out there in search of collaboration. Admittedly not a singer, the recordings are a bold output of vulnerable 'early versions' of these tracks as he looks to assemble a partnership or group to help the songs achieve their greatest form.
"Breath" is an up-tempo club bouncer in the vein of fellow-UK artists Pet Shop Boys. Taking a more serious turn, "No Go Zone" is a bit of a war song. Or at least a love and war song--addressing the true balancing act of what 'winning' means, in either setting.
The third track on Acting As Functional's YouTube Playlist is "Judge and Jury." The steady vocal melody reminds me of the serious mood and sonic drone of Smiths-meet-Depeche Mode, expressing emotion via a rather non-emotive rhythm track and vocal melody line.
Closing the EP is another upbeat Pop number entitled "Parachute." Sticking with the UK inspiration, this track channels the funky piano vibe of George Michael's "Too Funky." Damn I love that tune--haven't thought about it in ages.
I'm loving that Acting As Functional put these songs out there for the world to see and hear. Too often, aspiring songwriters create but are puzzled by their lack of success despite not sharing their work with anyone. So props to Acting As Functional for taking that step!
