Belgian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gregory Delbrouck just released After The Glow, a 5-song flourish bringing together the most energetic aspects of Jazz, Swing, and Pop. The collection sits somewhere between a smoky underground jazz club and a backstreet cabaret--with vocalist Tonke Dehon's engaging melodies dancing around the lock-tight licks of the horn section.

While some records demand your attention with bombast and spectacle, After the Glow is built around the emotions that linger after a meaningful night with someone you love—or once loved. The five tracks settle into a comfortable space between reflection and nostalgia, the sort of sound you want pouring out of the jukebox along with nice, sturdy scotch on the rocks.

Musically, Delbrouck pulls from a broad palette of genres, blending them into a sound that feels both familiar and personal. Recorded at Trix Studio in Antwerp, Belgium, the EP unfolds with a warm, cinematic quality that complements its themes of memory and connection. Whether reflecting on moments of joy, longing, or heartache, the songs move with an easy confidence, never rushing to their destination.

Undeniable is After the Glow's musicianship. Delbrouck (covering trombone, percussion, piano, and drum duties himself), weaves his songs with tasteful arrangements that add color without overwhelming the material. The horn section—reportedly inspired in part by his admiration for The Blues Brothers—brings plenty of character to the recordings, in the manner only a hot horn section can. And while Guy Delbrouck's Hammond organ and Eelken Scheerlinck's guitar work contribute additional depth and warmth, the aforementioned Dehon's voice tells the lyrical tales with compelling believability, tying it all together.

And kudos to the behind-and-scenes due of recording and mixing engineer Frank Rotthier and mastering engineer Benjamin Reggers, who give the EP a natural, inviting sound. Too often, the pursuit of a 'clean' production leads to an overpolished results. Quite the contrary, the production allows the performances to breathe, creating the impression of musicians sharing a room rather than assembling tracks piece by piece.

What ultimately makes After the Glow most memorable is its sincerity. Delbrouck has said the project "wasn't made to impress people—it was made to remind them of something they felt," and that mission statement resonates throughout the EP. Rather than chasing trends, After the Glow focuses on storytelling, emotion, and genuine human connection. The night may be over, as the album suggests, but the feelings remain—and that's precisely where Gregory Delbrouck finds his strength.
