Track listing: Against the Process

"Against the Process" is a 2021 single from Algerian-based Technical Brutal Death Metal project Silent Obsession. Spearheaded by guitarist/composer Max Marginal, Silent Obsession enlisted the talents of death-growl-renowned Redouane Aouameur to drop an emphatic vocal atomic bomb on the track.

As with its predecessor singles, "Against the Process" embodies the project's exploration of the darker side of society and human nature. Penetrating, sonically abusive, mind-melting, the energy explodes from your headphones or, as in my case, blasts from the studio speakers to the point of shaking items off of shelves. The driving bass and kick drums rival a human heartbeat for control over the listener's pulse.

And Redouane. This is a classic performance right in line with his entire discography of soul-shattering death metal vocal work. So deep. So gutteral. A veritable shower of acidic sound, he evokes the hounds of hell in his screams and growls.

Instrumentally, the drums and rhythm guitar throughout "Against the Process" are relentless and unforgiving. The guitar distortion retains just enough melodic quality to convey the chord progressions, while the searing leads slice through the thick rhythm tracks with ease.

It's another day, another strong death metal statement out of Algeria. I hadn't been aware of the death metal scene there until running across these artists. But having heard Silent Obsession, it became an obsession of sorts of my own to dive headlong into this ferocious community of hardcore death metal fanatics.
