Beyond Myself (Single)

by Relentless Pursuit

Track listing: Beyond Myself

Exploding forth from the mouth of a volcanic eruption direct from the bowels of Hell--Relentless Pursuit's new single "Beyond Myself" is all of that. Deathly growls, essentially projectile-vomiting out the lyrical emotional message. It's heavy as a motherfucker. The 'relief', as it were, comes in the form of the chorus which only relents in the form of machine gun steady double bass drums underneath a surprisingly melodic vocal. Matthew Konradt's choice of odd harmonies channels energy from the era of Alice in Chains' legendary non-traditional vocal harmony intervals.

Will you be there when my world crashes down on me?

All is impressive within "Beyond Myself," the third single from the project's forthcoming 6th album entitled Apocalypsis. It offers speaker overload. A wall of sound. Senses become overwhelmed by the flooding onslaught of volume and massive instrumentation...that is, until 2:40.

Enter: Piano. Synth. Phased melodic vocal. And fucking strings?!?! A monumental change-up for Relentless Pursuit, which then welcomes back the double bass drum, crushing hi-hats, and brings back the aforementioned onslaught of sound. Build to the end.

"Beyond Myself" offers some new twists from the Kentucky-based project that continues to challenge the musical tradition of that region of the U.S. You get the perpetual dark themes present throughout their discography. But there is some light searing through the clouds of musically ominous darkness in the form of refreshing melody and instrumentation. Konradt is confronting his own style and pushing its boundaries. Not quite the Beatles journey from "She Loves You" to "I Am The Walrus," but there's a similarity in self-induced growth and stepping outside of one's own comfort zones.

"Beyond Myself" is, in fact, a sound that extends beyond the origins of Relentless Pursuit. Not so much a new beginning as perhaps the turning over of a new leaf. Some added color and texture to a sound that has been honed regularly over the past few years. You can find Relentless Pursuit across all major streaming and social platforms. Might I suggest starting at relentlesspursuit.bandcamp.com, a platform that tends to treat artists with more respect (and compensation) than many of its streaming competitors. Take a listen, buy a track, or even purchase Relentless Pursuit's entire discography! If heavy is what you like, Relentless Pursuit is one of the most prolific acts going right now.
