Deadwater is the artist name of one Jonny Rivers, a Virginia-based multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter, who just released their second full-length release Bloom on October 11, 2024. Foreboding at the outset, the opening track "Watershed Bend" morphs into a crunchy rocker complete with some heady double-bass fills and haunting synth sneaking around in the background.

Deadwater is a one-man show, writing and recording pretty much everything in a charming basement near Washington DC. Heavy on the Fender Jaguar, to be sure. But the sound is more-than-escaping through the basement windows. Deadwater's logged tens of thousands of streams on Spotify and views on YouTube. The reach is growing daily!

Credit the viral nature of Deadwater's sound to its retro 90s grunge vibe--not quite the sound that originated in Seattle, but certainly exemplifying the sounds of the post-Nirvana/Pearl Jam era through the mid-to-late 1990s. There's an angst in the lyrics that's just on the happy side of straight-up Emo and a gloom that's just on the brighter side of The Smiths.
