Track listing: Closed for Repair
My favorite nugget of backstory on singer/songwriter Gary Patrick is that he led house bands at both the Bellagio and Mirage casinos in Las Vegas. Hell, makes me wonder if I've seen him a few times without realizing it! That's been years ago and in the the time since, he's released 7 solo albums and just on Halloween dropped his latest single, "Closed For Repair."
The track is co-written by Patrick and longtime collaborator singer/songwriter/producer Ken Orsow; recorded with prolific producer, Chad Mauldin. It's a melodically and lyrically powerful song touching on the painful process of building oneself back up on the heels of a broken heart. While deeply personal, the song is relatable to many, touching on human vulnerability and the dependence we can develop in close relationships.
Patrick explains that "Closed For Repair" is "an honest look into the moment a person decides to stop and heal." Touching on its slow, 3 minute emotional crescendo: "I love how the song continues to build until the end. It keeps you engaged. The lyrics — ‘I tried to love you into loving me back, why’d you hurt me like that?’ — tell the painful truth of a one-sided relationship that most people can relate to at some time in their lives. It’s really a song about being honest with yourself."
While Patrick has garnered thousands of followers, streams and views across his online profiles, his music largely remains an untapped goldmine of impressive musicianship and songwriting, with lyrics that form a visceral connection with listeners. The music community is taking notice, however, as evidence by his winning both Male Artist of the Year and Vocalist of the Year (Folk/Americana) at the 10th Annual Josie Music Awards in 2024, held at Nashville's historic Grand Ole Opry House.
