Track listing: Flare
Lawndale, California has spawned an Electronic music artist known as Hollywood Video Game Kill-Bot. HVGKB explores the capabilities of Mac OS' digital audio workstation / MIDI sequencer known as Logic Pro X. Within that realm, and with the extension of their Dean Vendetta XM 6-string, HVGKB's discography exhibits a wide variety of loops, synth tones and progressions that you wouldn't not expect in the background of a number of cross-genre video games.
In particular, HVGKB's latest release "Flare" is a 3-1/2 minute groove over a Trip-Hoppy Soca-style backbeat. The track features ethereal blooms of sound in a repeating interval pattern. Interwoven into this context is a brief lead guitar lick that signals the next iteration of the loop.
Hypnotic. Trance. Yes. On its own, "Flare" exists simply. Yet when set against HVGKB's 10 or so full-length albums and dozens upon dozens of EPs and Singles, "Flare" might serve as a bit of an intermezzo. Think of it as a small transition level during your favorite game. There's no epic rescue or mighty big boss--just a bit of a musical hop, skip, and jump into the next big foray.
Taken as a whole, HVGKB is impressively prolific. 113 videos alone on their Topic page on YouTube. Frequent posts and videos on facebook.com/HVGKB.
