Track listing: Hide N Seek

"Hide N Seek" is the latest single from Charlotte-based Electronic artist, WLAV (aka White Lines And Versace). This track follows a different path than that of the 8-song MEAT release that we reviewed back in March 2024. "Hide N Seek" is a mood. It's a vibe. It's the droning respite from intense dance tracks at a rave at 4 a.m.

"Hide N Seek" has a thumpy, compressed, digital backbeat, with phrases marked by some glitch-sounding snare hits on the 2's and 4's. If Trance songs have a 'chorus', this one is marked by 8th notes on a trash electronic cymbal tone, giving the track just enough shape to take its unique form.

WLAV's upcoming album will be entitled Life in Kaiju City and, as mentioned previously, is a departure from its predecessor. "Hide N Seek" is essentially setting the tone for the rest of the concept album. As the giant kaiju (monster; think: Godzilla but taking all sorts of forms other than giant lizard) wanders through this fictional city, well, what would you do? Likely hide, right? So that's where this track takes us. We've yet to encounter any death or destruction. "Hide N Seek" is metaphorically (and literally) a game of cat and mouse.

Inspired by the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series, we can safely assume that the action will pick up with future single releases as the album begins to take its eventual form. For now, follow WLAV on Instagram and Threads, streaming on Spotify and Soundcloud.
