Track listing: La Hora de Echidna
"La Hora de Echidna" is the hottest multi-lingual banger I've heard in a while! Hailing from Tagum City in the Philippines, now Austin-based singer/producer Marc Biala has a hot dancefloor track on his hands. When you search out his music, though, you may initially not be sure you've found the correct Marc Biala. His discography includes croon-tastic Sinatra-esque ballads, fun Christmas tunes, pop ballads, and Dance singles in English, Spanish, and maybe more!?
But today we're focusing on "La Hora de Echidna." To be honest, I had to lookup Echidna. I knew I remembered reading about her but couldn't remember all the differences between her and Medusa. Basically, Medusa is the woman with snakes for hair who can turn you to stone with her stare. But Echidna is typically depicted as a woman from the waist up and a giant serpent from the waist down--certainly monstrous, but also often described as beautiful. So I think it's clear we're talking about an ex. 🙂 Echidna can be motherly and loving but is also without a doubt a monster. So, yeah, gotta be a former lover we're talking about here.
The track itself is classic Club: an airy, freeform intro (sung in Spanish in this case), with a high bpm beat kicking in after a few lines of lyrics. The music picks up the pace as does Biala's lyrical delivery. He alternately sings and raps his lyrics, impressively and effortlessly jumping across language barriers. His melodies give off some confident attitude, well-developed with attention paid to dynamic highs and lows. To help you navigate the lyrics, Biala's got a great studio-performance lyric video of "La Hora de Echidna" for your viewing and linguistic pleasure.
