Track listing: Manifest Destiny
Alias Wayne, the alias of one Ranzel X Kendrick, has a new single out entitled "Manifest Destiny." The Costa Rican expat continues cranking out the chill-yet-insightful tunes from his own little corner of el paradiso. As the title conveys, this one channels the tongue-in-cheek sincerity of the phrase coined by columnist John L. O'Sullivan back in 1845.
Wayne explains, "I wanted this song to deliver the reality feel of the American Dream - the Manifest Destiny dichotomy. I know it wasn't the Native Americans' American dream to be run off their lands. And here we are today, all together people of the Americas: South, Central and North America."
Create a new Manifest Destiny that is all about coming together for better things! Overcoming all obstacles. Love, Peace & Pura Vida from Costa Rica!
Musically, "Manifest Destiny" bops and chills right-on along with an energetic bounce--a Marcy Playground "Sex and Candy" acousti-vibe, with an historic flare. Wayne notes the energy picking up about halfway through: "I love this song for the "Layla-like" separation into what could almost be two different songs." The "Manifest Destiny" video on YouTube includes extensive notes regarding its concept and emotional direction.Alias Wayne does nothing but spit the truth from his Costa Rican perch. He's got no ulterior motives. Just seems to watch the mess happening in the U.S.A. and across the world, then write songs about the needlessness of so many of our collective problems. For the sake of "Manifest Destiny," Wayne's seems a helluva lot more pleasant than what the song's namesake ended up turning into.
