Track listing: Resistance
Indianapolis' Divine Martyr is back with their latest single "Resistance," a track that leans heavily into their group's Power Metal roots. The single officially drops on December 19 but doesn't signal an overall sound change for the band--much of the rest of their forthcoming album will dial-in the Symphonic Metal sound the band developed over the past decade.
Dead and gone are all my transgressions | know it's you evil one, I submit to the Father | Get behind me
Where "Resistance" shines is its featuring singer Kassandra Bella Chandler's impressive vocal range. Naturally a coloratura soprano*, much of "Resistance" has Chandler delving into her lower belt register, with harmonies shining on her higher range.
Lyrically "Resistance" is appropriately a song of battle, spiritual warfare. "Father God I pray, I thank you for your son who was slain and rose on that third day. You indeed go before me, this battle it is yours. You shall forever claim victory."
Having dived headlong into Divine Martyr's discography throughout 2025, it's exciting to see and hear how the group has developed in a relatively short time since Chandler's joining the band. Anytime a band's line-up changes, the best case scenario is that instead of trying to overcome the absence of the departed member, a group will thrive on what the new blood has brought to the ensemble. This is an exciting time for Divine Martyr fans, as well as those discovering the group for the first time.

* Writer's note: I had to school myself on my opera knowledge. Coloratura soprano (Italian: soprano di coloratura) is a type of operatic soprano voice that specializes in music that is distinguished by agile runs, leaps and trills.
