Roads of Dust / In The Shadow of Good (Single)

by Big Sexy

Track listing: Roads of Dust / In The Shadow of Good

Big Sexy is back at it! Rochester-based Gary Maccagnone and Ukrainian composer/ sound producer Alex Goroshko have dropped a pair of singles that absolutely smokes. This rustic sound of Blues-meets-Roots Rock comes to life with the slow Funk groove of "Roads of Dust" and the Hammond B3-rich burner "In The Shadow Of Good."

Kicking things off with "Roads of Dust," the tone is set with a rich Rhodes organ sound layered over a sparse drum/bass backbeat. The lead vocal enters with "Mornin' sun burns my eyes, last night's lies just won't die." It hits with all the attitude and moxie of a classic Blues tune. And the lead guitar? It's got that thick, unmistakable Clapton-esque tone. "Lonely hearts don't belong in this place where we've gone wrong." "Roads of Dust" has me feeling all Robert Cray all of the sudden.

"In The Shadow of Good" comes at you with a whole other vibe--raw, electric, the aforementioned B3 goodness. What wouldn't you love about it? But for those on the fence, you jump to the right side once the horns kick in leading up to the guitar solo. Pure unadulterated joy. This one brings more swagger, more emotional vitriol, more grit, spit 'n' vinegar. Betrayal and anger. A nastiness worthy of inspiring a song to tell the world about a good man done wrong.

Alongside their earlier releases, "She's Leaving Early, She's Working Late" and "Only Blues Inside," this latest song pairing conveys a helluva lot about Big Sexy's songwriting connection--literally from opposite sides of the world. They've united in a love of the Blues and old school style songwriting and performing. If a handful of the Blues greats could hear this now, I have to think they'd look up and give an approving nod in the direction of Big Sexy.

Go ahead and give them a Like and a Follow on their socials and streaming platforms.
