Track listing: SeanSrum
Swedish trio Song for a Gorgeous Blonde recently dropped "SeanSrum," a seriously playful electronic composition featuring steel drums, strings, distorted guitar, pipe organ, and a funktastically bouncy rhythm track. It falls stylistically between their two other releases on dinodimuro3.bandcamp.com: "Karneval i Sverige," which embodies an adventurous feel of a video game soundtrack and "Sunday Dreams Lång Onödig Remix," which brings a brooding, ominous foreboding mood to their repertoire.
Keyboardist Björn Eklund, guitarist Lars Karlsson, and percussionist Anja Blomgren bring to "SeanSrum" "an intercontinental collaboration among the Swedish boys and girl and myself," according to the group's founder, Dino DiMuro. It's "Ambient Electronic meets Downtempo with elements of Trip Hop, House, Glitch and Martin Denny." And it certainly is all of those things.
"SeanSrum" is one-third of this trio of songs the collab have released over the past month, bringing together their talents from Sweden to DiMuro's final mastering in Palm Springs. Perhaps best known for his sound design work on Gladiator and Skyfall, DiMuro's musical history includes a date opening for Van Halen while performing as a rock guitarist, while his original music has been dubbed "Wal Disney on Acid."
Eclectic to be sure, the cast of Song for a Gorgeous Blonde unite to bring the fun, frivolous sonic vision to reality. "SeanSrum" is whimsical, innovative--a bit of jazz melded into a bit of Nintendo-y Zelda-like adventure.
