Country Side is back at it with an aptly titled sophomore effort, Sloppy Seconds. It's 24 tracks (yes, twenty-four of 'em!) of Country tunes set to a quintessentially 80s & 90s era style. Think Garth, think George. But make the stories more practical, more direct. Titles like "You Can't Treat People Like Garbage" and "You'll Be Right Back I'll Be Left Front" give an uncanny preview of what you're in for over the next 75 minutes.
Just to mix things up a bit, I'm gonna start at the end. "Don't Let Snakes and Alligators Bite You" closes the album. It's a genuine allegory that, taken literally, simply offers us all some sage advice. But when you get into the metaphor and lessons conveyed, things get pretty real. "Hold your ground, fear won't survive. Alligators bite you, keep your heart safe, let the good times excite you." Just some down-home "don't let the bed bugs bite" advice that could do us all a bit o' good.
I also wanna address "You're the Genuine Prickle," a ballad dedicated to that special someone who gives you the chills of newfound love. May the hairs raise on your arms when you meet the right person! And when you do find them, "Don't Use A Big Word"--Country Side hints at words like "love" conveying plenty without complicating things with verbal gymnastics and nuance.
The man behind the lyrics is Jason Peverett. He shares that "a few songs [on Sloppy Seconds] have different versions; in the future I hope to release those other versions." He writes the words and sends those on to Country Side bandmates / producers Shaun B., Andy G., and Chris S. who run with the lyrics to create the accompanying music. And with a debut of Okey Dokey's 24 tracks, followed by Sloppy Seconds' 24 more songs, there's a prolific nature to this output that would lead us to the conclusion that we're gonna have another full record release again sooner than later.
