Spaceships (Single)

by Sound Siren

Track listing: Spaceships

Not since Afroman's "Because I Got High" a quarter of a century ago has there been a catchy anthem for those who manage to get through their day without doing a damn thing. "Spaceships" is simple, sparse, and surprisingly melodic for a song that would seem to convey that taking the time to write a melody is just too much. But just as Dolly Parton claims "it takes a lotta money to look this cheap," so goes Los Angeles-based Sound Siren. Contrary to "Spaceships'" implied laziness, the group has been working tirelessly releasing a slew of singles since Fall 2024.

Sound Siren are in the midst of dropping singles from their forthcoming full-length album produced by none other than LIT drummer Taylor Carroll. The driving pop-punk track "The Other Guy" was the group's first single, released in September of 2024. After a few more rockers and their ballad "Time" released in January 2025, "Spaceships" presents itself as a potential crossover smash hit. Much in the same way as LIT's contemporaries Sugar Ray rocked surprisingly hard yet achieved their commercial success through lighter hits like "Fly" and "Someday," so goes Sound Siren with a smart variation amongst their singles' potential audience appeal.

"Spaceships" is the quintessential summer jam--perfect at the pool, during an extended road trip, or providing the soundtrack for a solid session of day drinking on a random weekday. I mean, who can't relate to being overworked, exhausted, and just mentally spent? We all need some downtime, right? It just makes sense that Sound Siren is suggesting for you that your own downtime start...oh...right about now.

Sound Sirens also [ambitiously?] released a video to accompany "Spaceships," opening with the band waking late in the day on the sofa. Their grand plans are to (let's all sing it together) "do absolutely nothin'." Only the guitarist musters up enough energy to walk outside to deliver his tasty sing-a-long solo.
