Track listing: Take Me Home To Carolina
Haunting, diabolical, and even gorgeous. "Take Me Home To Carolina" is the latest single from West Coast based duo Hello Clarice. Within just a few weeks of its release, the "Take Me Home To Carolina" video has earned over 15K views on YouTube, while the band's releases on Spotify have hauled in well over 100K listens. Their music resonates widely, to be sure.
"Take Me Home To Carolina" does embody the essence of the rest of Hello Clarice's discography but adds to what had been a 'serious' Americana/Rock vibe with what amounts to some heavy grunge influence. You hear a few parallel 4th and major 3rd harmonies a la Cantrell/Staley, arpeggios not unlike Billy Duffy's in The Cult, and an approach to production that turns the Ominous setting up to '11'. On the opposite U.S. coast, also check out The Mayan Factor -- these bands touring together would be one helluva bill!
Certainly working with multi-platinum engineer George Dum hasn't hurt Hello Clarice. There is a full-bodied richness in this sound that is undeniable. Dum has woven in the perfect blend of reverb--the vocals are dripping with it--it's thick but still somehow not overdone. Just enough to punch you in the face.
Keep an eye on Hello Clarice's Spotify for new releases. And while you're there be sure to check out their other new single, "Coiled In The Shade." It will be interesting to see if their forthcoming work continues on a heavier darker path, or if they take some steps back to their more organic incarnations.
