Track listing: The Onslaught
Jesus Fucking Christ "The Onslaught" is an aptly named new single!! On February 25, 2024, Kentucky metalcore project Relentless Pursuit dropped an atomic bomb on hardcore metal fans. Handling all instruments, production, mixing, and mastering as a solo project, this 1-person machine explodes into your auditory canal with no remorse or apologies.
Per the rules of metalcore, Relentless Pursuit's death growls are lethal. Horrifying, even. As an entertaining side note, my last review was a super chill, romantic new RnB record. If ever there was an antithesis to a scene of candlelit romance, you've just found it. Taken right from the track's lyrics, "The Onslaught" is an ode to the absence of love and emotion. This "hollow shell" awaits "mercy" and "repentance," but whether or not it shall be granted remains to be seen.
The cover art echoes the lyrical hopelessness: a lone skull set against a backdrop of a dead forest, gazing up with little hope for the gift of reanimation. And the music underscores both the attacking vocals and soulless lyrical imagery. It's sonic brutality in its truest form.
Take a visit to Relentless Pursuit's Bandcamp profile. Yes, there is more music to be heard there. And it's got its fair share of doom, death, and destruction. But "The Onslaught" takes the project's metalcore aggression to exponential heights (or depths, as it were). And just for good measure, while you listen go ahead and soak in the pain and solitary lack of peace within the lyrics.
This shell (14x)
No remorse. No Pity.
Only a heart of stone remains.
For my crimes. For putting You aside.
My pride belittles myself.
I tread upon the thorns left to decay.
This hollow shell is upon the precipice of indecision.
Will I ever know true peace while set in the error of my ways?
Only You are the answer to my pain.
Only You can wipe away the cloud of sin in my life.
This hollow shell stands ready for Your reckoning.
Make ready my soul for Your mercy.
Let me be the willing to obtain repentance.
This hollow shell stands ready for Your reckoning.
Make ready my soul for Your mercy.
