The Simian (Single)

by The All's Eye

Track listing: The Simian

Valentine's Day 2025 may or may not be memorable to you for the reasons of romance (or lack thereof) but Seattle-based jazz/prog/jam outfit The All's Eye has got something sure to satisfy. "The Simian" is their latest single, releasing officially on February 14th but available on YouTube as a sneak peek. Guitarist Ari Joshua, drummer Ben Atkind (Elephantproof, formerly of Goose), and keyboardist Kris Yunker (Bearly Dead, formerly of Goose) brought in String Cheese Incident percussionist Jason Hann to add some spice to the mix.

The track is an undeniable nod to the great Allman Brothers Band, with its primary riff echoing the sound of "Ain't Wastin' Time (No More)." But the group takes that initial inspiration and builds upon it with their own fresh lyrical vibe and a touch more funk. "The Simian" grooves with a catchy pep in its step and some essence of jazz/prog worked in throughout the various transitions throughout the tune.

By the time you reach the song's climax, just prior to the outro, the group transforms the song into an almost orchestral rising chord progression with a mini-choral accompanying ascension. It's a great blend of a nod to the legends with the copious talents of TAE infusing "The Simian" with the bounce, joy, and love for music apparent throughout their discography. The group has Winter 2025 show dates planned around the release but you can (and should) keep up with the band on their social and streaming platforms, beginning your journey at theallseye.com.
