The Trifling Three is a veritable super group of rappers based in Maui, Hawaii. Friends who've become as close as brothers, the trio is composed of WillyWorld, JonahOG and PTIC Drilla. Each brings their own arsenal of rhymes, styles and flow to the mix, splitting and spitting verses in each song. They've come together from their solo pursuits to release a new 19-track album entitled What A Life.
Lyrically, the trio deliver straightforward messages talking about their daily lives and the day-to-day drama that goes down among friends, love interests, and cliques. "Non-chalant" is the predominant rhyming style common across all three members. PTIC Drilla is the group's rager whose delivery channels the energy of artists like Sleepy Hallow. WillyWorld's Jewish heritage has been a driving force in his music career--when it comes to his approach to the mic, you can hear bits of his Lil' Yachty influence come through the speakers. And JonahOG embodies much of the natural element surrounding him during his upbringing in Hawaii. You can hear more of his emotional connection and appeal come through stylistically not unlike XXXTentacion.
Stylistically, the 19 songs jump across Rap subgenres. "Where You Been" comes at you with a darker mood--think "Murder Was The Case." At the same time, "Champagne" offers a more sparse production a la the days of Master P selling his early releases out of his trunk on the streets of New Orleans.
As opposed to sing-song-y rappers who hustle a few verses together but focus on big melodic hooks, The Trifling Three are writers. They have stories to tell. The songs on What A Life are more about telling those stories than they are trying to be the summer beach anthem. The album's production overall takes a back seat to the lyrics. Their beats serve merely as the mechanism to get the lyrics onto tape. From there, the listeners gets to learn more about the group's experiences, highs, and lows.
