Kurt Hagardorn grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. At age 18 he formed Brian and the Nightmares in 1985 and released 2 albums. He formed the band Gumption in 1994. The group released a single and EP with Chris Stamey. He became a guitarist for hire as well, backing artists Thad Cockrell and Caitlan.

Hagardorn released the album Ten Singles in 2007 and Leaves in 2010 and Exile in Babylon in 2021.
