Few names represent a musical legacy and the Conjunto genre as the name “De La Rosa.” Originally established in the late 1940’s by the late great Tony De La Rosa, this musical family continues to evolve and grow to new heights with the next generation of De La Rosas.
Ricky De La Rosa, born in 1964 In Kingsville TX, is the nephew of Tony and son of Alfredo De La Rosa. Ricky and his brother Rudy, continue the proud tradition of Conjunto performers. Music is in their blood, with the De La Rosa heritage on the father’s side and the Eloy Bernal heritage on the mother’s side of the family. It can be said Los D Boyz – Hermanos De La Rosa are dripping with Conjunto soul and DNA. The group adopted the name D Boyz in honor of their De La Rosa Heritage and tagged the name Hermanos De La Rosa in honor of brothers Adan & Alfredo who comprised the original Hermanos De La Rosa. This new CD on CHR Records entitled “Senor San Antonio” pays a musical tribute to the De La Rosa heritage with a special emphasis on the early hits of Alfredo De La Rosa.
The world is ready for the next generation of De La Rosas, as displayed when Ricky and the rest of the D Boyz were flown to Washington DC to receive the National Endowment for the Arts award from 1st lady Hilary Clinton on behalf of Tony De La Rosa who was ill and could not attend the event. The symbolic torch was passed from one generation to the next on that historic day in 1998.
