Shoe

Genre: Alternative, Rock
Hometown: Hobart, Tasmania

Shoe is a bold, provocative, milieu of sound based out of Hobart, Tasmania. Influences burst forth, harkening a blend of late 90s / early 2000s alt rock. A bit of Muse with some dabs of Chili Peppers transitions and some Radiohead cacophonic distortion thrown in for good measure. When the lead vocal hits, it's a ride alongside the deliberate, direct delivery of Car Seat Headrest's Will Toledo.

Enough with comparisons. Shoe formed in 2009, recorded a self-titled EP with ARIA Award-winning producer Greg Stace (Boy and Bear, Kid Courageous), and released a video for the single "Egg" which has only garnered 2.6 million views on YouTube. That's all. Oh, and it won Best Clip at the Amplified Music Awards in 2010.

After initial success and an inevitable hiatus, Shoe returned to the scene in 2019 building on their already lengthy list of lauds and praise. Their 2021 EP Pondworld mixed by Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Timber Timbre) is up to near 200,000 streams on Spotify (they've got over 11 million total with 80K monthly listeners). They've signed deals with MGM Australia, Fogsongs Music Publishing, had sync placement on the NBC series Mercy, and their playlist inclusion on Spotify is the stuff of dreams.

Shoe is wrapping up work on their new album, set for an August 2023 release. Recorded by Alex O’Gorman (Angie McMahon, Big Smoke) and mastered by Andrei Eremin (Tones and I, Chet Faker, Hiatus Kaiyote), it hits hard. Jangly rhythm guitar, booming drum tones, overall heavier than their previous work--it marks a completely fresh approach to their already multi-faceted alt-rock sound.
