Run Your Mind

by Gerry Dead

Track listing: Freak, Freak #2, Run Your Mind, No Bullshit, Some1 Inside My House

I remember exactly where I was when I first heard NIN's Pretty Hate Machine and Ministry's The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste. Both were mindblowing, earth shattering and frankly a little disturbing. The genre, instrumentation, production, and lyrics were pretty groundbreaking for mainstream albums at that point in time. Those two records were benchmarks for Industrial/Metal...

I'm not about to say that Gerry Dead's latest, the 5-song EP entitled Run Your Mind, is the second coming of either of those albums. But what Gerry brings to the table is a similarly unapologetic, unabashed raw expression of emotion. But rather than the intense levels of pain and anger Reznor and Jourgensen birthed, Gerry Dead comes at you from a near opposite side of the spectrum.

Through his songs, Dead feels he is "empowering individuals to live their truth and find their purpose." And there's something to that. Usually packaged in sentimental superficial fluff, Gerry Dead channels the darkest of Industrial, Metal, and even Hardcore Rap musical muses to convey his message...successfully, even!

He's shared bills with the likes of Adam and Otep and cowritten a single with Orgy frontman Jay Gordon. Hell yeah there's something to this! Whether it's the Rap leanings of "No Bullshit," or the horror-rock chord progressions of "Some1 Inside My House," Gerry Dead is coming at you through the speakers with a reckless abandon. And if the opening screams of "Freak" don't raise the hairs on the back of your neck and scare you just a little bit, check your pulse 'cause you may be dead.
