Bruton Receives Posthumous Awards for ‘Crazy Heart’ Score
December 14, 2009 - Austin, TX Stephen Bruton passed away several weeks after completing the score to the movie Crazy Heart with T Bone Burnett. On Sunday, their work earned multiple critics' awards from across the country. Crazy Heart won Best Film Score from the New York Film Critics Online, The Boston Society of Film Critics gave Crazy Heart its award for Best Use of Music in a Film, and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association honored Bruton and Burnett for Best Music/Score.
Also honored was Jeff Bridges' lead performance, garnering Best Actor from both the New York and Los Angeles critics. Crazy Heart will open in New York and Los Angeles in December, qualifying it for the Oscars, with a general release happening in January. The film co-stars Robert Duvall, Maggie Gylenhall, and Colin Farrell.
