After launching her recording career, UK artist Jasmin Dolly hits the road, reveals striking new photos from a shoot with Nik Pate, and gets back into the studio with Producer David Ezra
When we last caught up with Jasmin Dolly she had launched her recording career with a string of singles. Her work at Artique Studios with David Ezra introduces her sound to the world with songs like "Call Me JD," "Bad Loving," and "Sky." And still at that point, with more than 10,000 listens on Soundcloud.com, she had not played a single live performance.
It looked for a while as though her show-less calendar would be extended, as her impressive booking in front of 10,000 music at the UK 2013 Fest was rescheduled when the entire festival was pushed back a year. But Jasmin bounced back from the disappointment, scheduling a string of shows across London at venues of all shapes and sizes.
She performed shows in Finsbury Park, a comedy club in Leicester Square, and the award-winning Chinatown gay bar, KU Bar. That foray onto the stage immediately turned heads in Jasmin's directions. In fact, her KU Bar show caught the eyes of Boyz magazine, which resulted in a photo and mention in that publication. Look for more on that front in the near future!
Visually, Jasmin all but reinvented her initial pretty-pop image through a photo shoot with Nik Pate. Pate, who Artbox Magazine said had "a somewhat deviant creative approach" to photography, took to Dolly with an abruptly more daring lens. Shying away from the adorably cute, pop-singer feel of her early photos, he cast Jasmin in a more mature, sexy, revealing light. The images speak for themselves—thanks to Nik and Jasmin for sharing several of them with us for this article.
Soon after her shoot with Nik, Jasmin posted this video of outtakes from the experience—candid moments with Nik, makeup artist Jacob James, and two pups that would have otherwise never been seen:
Back to the music front, Jasmin once again enlisted the efforts of South West London-based producer David Ezra to record new material. The duo had hit internet gold with their early efforts and happily reunited to take on Jasmin's latest song, "Love Bu." Born of her affectionate name for friends and fans, "Bu," the song is currently being mixed and should be released this summer.
In support of "Love Bu," Jasmin has recently announced several exciting shows. From the pub feel The Victoria Battersea to the elegance of The Mayfair Hotel, she continues to bring her music to all flavors of London audiences. While her club shows will be intimate and, well, more pub-like, the event at The Mayfair is a fashion awards event sure to attract the black tie and evening gown set.
Jasmin will also be performing at historic and renowned venue, The Water Rats. Previously known at The Pindar of Wakefield, Bob Dylan played his first UK gig there. Also gracing the stage over the years: The Pogues in 1982 and Oasis' London debut in 1994. In recent years, The Water Rats has served as a stepping stone for the likes of Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Noisettes, and many more.
Take notice of Jasmin Dolly. Her music career is blowing up, as echoed by her recent interviewer on 93.7 Express FM. You can listen to the entirety of that interview at SoundCloud.com/JasminDolly.
She's still forging on with the noticeable absence of a formal promotional team. But with an undeniable internet presence, an ever-growing list of onstage performances, and an engaging artist/producer team that showcases Jasmin's talents, 2013 is set-up to be a breakthrough year for Jasmin.
